Art Prize

Grand Rapids hosts an event called Art Prize each fall with all kinds of art work from all over the world.  The art work is at many venues, the art museum,  outside on the sidewalks and street corners, along the river just to name a few.  Today Jeff and I had lunch at the Art Museum with Hope College and learned about the new art museum that will be built and open in 2015.  Afterward we took some time to see some of the exhibits.  It was a beautiful day and we had a nice time.

See more pictures on our family photo album!

Birthday Weekend!

Friday was a fun day.  I visited my wonderful friend from work and we had such a nice time. She baked me her famous chocolate chip cookies and played one of my favorite songs. After I got home, Jeff and I had spaghetti supporting the Lions Club, went to the high school football game and did shopping at Meijer.

Saturday Jeff rode his bike in the annual le Tour de Donut here in Greenville.  The ride is 32 miles and  has two stops requiring the rider to eat at least one donut before continuing.  It is a fun time and the weather was nice. I went shopping for new slightly smaller clothes in between the stops. So everyone wins!

I played for church for the first time in almost a year.  I think it went pretty well and enjoyed playing for the Lord this morning.

Sunday after church we drove to Ann Arbor, picked up Mary and then headed to Toledo to celebrate Sarah's birthday.  We had a lot of fun, first at bd's mongolian barbeque for dinner and then eating Mary's delicious and moist chocolate cake at Sarah's house.  Matthew joined us from OK via face time so we had the family all together.  I am a very happy mommy!  It's been a great weekend.

You get a crazy hat to wear at the restaurant.  I said she looks like princess amadala from star wars. We have two beautiful girls!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to SARAH...It was a joyous day 24 years ago, the day she was born in the Land of the Rising Sun!  Omedeto Gozaimasu!

My Collage Card

PUZZLE PIECES

I went to Gilda's House yesterday for a class about feeling and dealing with cancer and grief.  I am not sure if I did my collage card like the rest of the class, but I am very happy with it and it represents how I feel so well.

Can you make any guess about any of it's meanings?

The picture includes: stormy background (including some tornadic winds), God, a lamb, happy black and white dog, three children, flowers, koala, anemometer and kiddie border.

Stormy background: I have had a stormy last year. Blown around leaving life as I knew it in pieces.

God: All powerful and has directed my life through the storm, safe and sound.

Lamb: The little lamb is me.  I am in God's loving arms.

Dog:  First, it represents that I'd like things to be more black and white, but it has proved to very gray. There are no hard and fast answers. Secondly, he makes me smile, and I need to keep doing that every day, no matter if life seems gray.

Three Children: Two girls and a boy.  Wonderful memories of our three children growing up into who they are today, awesome!  It also represents my looking forward to grandchildren one day, hoping that I will be able to hold them and play with them.

flowers: Take time to enjoy the small things.  Seeing the first flowers of spring always brings a smile and a sign of life!

Koala:  I think they are so cute and had the exciting experience of holding a koala when we were in Australia, Sarah in one arm and the little aussie in the other.

Anemometer: Of course it's an instrument that the love of my life uses in his weather world. It  measures wind speed.  Life has been a whirlwind at times, then a waiting game at others. I am still learning patience!

The kiddie border: Well, it represents kids in general.  I love kids and babies.

So that is my story behind the collage card.  Tomorrow church orchestra starts and Friday I am going to visit a friend from my work.

Canadian Brass

Jeff and I were able to attend the Canadian Brass concert at the Performing Arts Center at Greenville High School. It was awesome!  I didn't take my camera or iPod since pictures and videos are usually prohibited. Anyway, they welcomed pictures, so I used my cell phone and had pretty sad results.  Everything was small. I shared the best I had plus some I found online from Thursday's concert.  The music was stellar and the performers interactive. During one song, the Tuba Player came and played sitting in the audience.  The other 4 stood around the auditorium.  I took a picture of Jeff with their French Horn player. All of the instruments are 24 K gold plated! Just beautiful! One trumpeter, played the piccolo trumpet.  I never heard of that before. It was quite amazing! The other trumpeter has perfect pitch and sang a high C during the Carmen opera performance. Incredible! Everyone had a prop as a costume, Captain, brown women's wig, blonde women's wig a matador and even a bull! If you ever have a chance to see them in concert, I would HIGHLY recommend seeing them!

Watch a video taken at our concert lasts Thursday.
(hear the piccolo trumpet!)

Jeff ran in a 5K this morning to benefit families that are homeless.  He was happy with his time right at 30 minutes!  I stayed home instead of going to watch, since it was a cold morning!  Some areas had frost!  I have a sweatshirt on today.  I think it was in the 40's! At least the sun is out and shining bright! Fall is here. Even some of the leaves are starting to change.

Have a nice weekend!

Sweet September

School has officially started everywhere, now that Labor Day is behind us.   Matthew and Sarah started class in August, Mary started last Tuesday.  But today was another first day.  It was Mary's first day of school at Huron High as a Teaching Intern!  She looked beautiful and happy!  A dream is coming true right before our eyes!   Sarah's back into school mode both as a graduate student and as the athletic trainer at Summerfield High School.  She does such a great job!  The kids want to find a way to keep her next year too.  A small school probably doesn't have money in the budget for a Mater's prepared Athletic Trainer.  Matthew is busy with classes and working both jobs, OU scene shop and the movie theater.  He loves apartment living rather than the dorms. I don't hear too much from my favorite young man, but than means things are going ok.

Backing up just over a week, Mary moved back to Ann Arbor to her new apartment.  We had to rent a small truck to get her things there. This apartment wasn't furnished and neither of our cars would hold her bed and a futon. It is a nice place on the bottom floor and close to her classes and her work!  Sarah met us in Ann Arbor and we spent the night in Ann Arbor helping set up her furniture, hang pictures and enjoyed a delicious breakfast together prepared by Sarah and Jeff. Sarah drove us home to Greenville and spent the rest of Labor Day weekend with us.

Last weekend we travelled to Lansing to celebrate Jack's 3rd birthday. He is my little buddy that I babysat for a couple years when his mom was director of our preschool. The girls met us there so it was a family affair.  Even Matthew was able to Skype before work.   Fun was had by all. I am still
Jack's "my Grace" and he told me I was his best friend.  Then he told everyone they were his best friend.   But when it came time to say goodbye and leave, Jack asked me to stay at their house.  He told Jeff,  "I want her (Grace) to stay with us".  Aww. It made me smile and feel loved.  I felt bad for little Jack though, he was so disappointed.  I told him I didn't have church clothes to wear the next day and he offered some of his.  What a sweetie.  I was glad to get hugs from all the kids, including mine, and spend time with the whole family.  Sarah found Mousercise  on youtube and all the kids enjoyed dancing and exercising.  Jack would mousercise every day he was at our house.

Sunday was rally day at church.  I was hoping for better attendance for our Sunday School, but had less than 20 even with teachers.  Our adult studies had great attendance which is encouraging. Don't know why it is so hard to get people to stay and study God's wonderful Word together.  I will be praying that more children will be in class next week.  I made a website for our Sunday School. You can see it here.

Before Mary went back to Ann Arbor, she took the time to help clear out my old and non-fitting clothes from my closet.  It was a big job.  I had quite a few things that I couldn't wear that I can wear now and things I was wearing that I can't wear anymore.  Do I sound like the apostle Paul?  Anyway, I got to wear one of my favorite blouses to church that I haven't worn in years along with a favorite pair of shoes, my two tone navy and white shoes I got from the resale store at the seminary. I paid a quarter or 50 cents for them.  Unfortunately by the time I got home, I had at least three blisters on my toes and feet. I knew I wouldn't wear them again. They were laid to rest in our trash can after I took one last picture. Pretty silly isn't it?  The rest of the story is that all three kids gave me a hard time when I wore those shoes, so it wasn't just getting rid of the shoes, but it was the getting rid of an object with so many funny memories! I won't lose the memories and I won't have anymore blisters.

Looking forward,  Jeff and I have tickets to see/hear the Canadian Brass.  They are performing at our high school auditorium.  I can't wait.  Need to make some birthday plans too for my first born.  She will be 24!  I have a few ideas, just have to decide.  As a graduate student she is learning about multiple expenses and told me just to give money. She has renew her ATC certification
(which is really expensive) and has to have the hew new car looked at.  The fan for the AC isn't working right. While sending her money would be easy and helpful, momma needs to get her something fun too!  Sure would help if her university would pay her for her all her work.  They still owe her some payment.

Well, that's about it.  Tomorrow is a day we must never forget.  9/11/01~ the day our country was attacked and thousands died.  God Bless America.

The Beach and Ballpark

We had a very nice few days.  Sunday was filled with happiness at church, while enjoying calzones for lunch that Mary prepared for us, watching Tiger baseball on TV and then after a nap we had fun going to Lake Michigan together and walking on the beach along the shore.  Jeff even went into the water and rode the waves.  It was a little too chilly for Mary and me.  Mary took some really nice pictures.  It is amazing to see so many tree limbs sticking out of the sand.  One couple made a little fort out of sticks.  It was kind of cool.  The weather was perfect sunny and warm with a breeze that kept you comfortable.  The night ended with a late dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings.

Yesterday Mary and I enjoyed our water aerobics with our new water shoes. I think they really help me from slipping and do the exercises better.  Jeff came home from work in the late afternoon and we headed to Grand Rapids.  Mary and Jeff needed new running shoes, and we had a good coupon at the Runnery.  Both of them found a pair that suited them and we were finished in 30 minutes.  We had plenty of time to get some dinner and make it to the ballpark in plenty of time before the game started.  It was our last whitecaps game of the season.  We had some awesome seats only 4 rows back by the visitors' dugout.  Jeff brought his glove for any foul balls that came our way.  Mary pointed out that The Verlander's were there selling and signing their new book.  I didn't buy the book, but took the time to meet them and shake their hand.  Mary snapped their picture.  I had my kindle with me, and I took a few pictures of us in our seats.  Best of all, the game ended with a walk off 2 run homer!

Sarah is happy.  Her ordered supplies for another year of high school sports arrived.   She now has everything she needs to care for the young athletes.  For instance, a football player was cleared to play with his cast on, so Sarah will have to pad it to keep the other players safe.

Matthew is happy too.  He loves his new apartment and his major. I guess his assignment in one class was to listen to music write down some words and draw a picture of your interpretation. Better than doing math for sure.

Mary has a reason to be happy. She has applied for Teach for America and the usual next step is a phone interview and then finally a face to face interview. Well she was informed that she won't need to have a phone interview since her application was so well written and will only need to have a in person interview.  I guess that happens in October. We will be moving her back to Ann Arbor on Friday.  That does NOT make me happy.  I am much happier when ALL of my kids are home.

That's all for now..Hope you have a wonderful week and a happy Labor Day!

Wicked

Things have been going pretty well this week. Mary and I have enjoyed water aerobics together, had some fun and success at shopping, and got a lot accomplished on our "to do" lists.

But the highlight of our week was Thursday, when Jeff, Mary and I traveled to Toledo, met up with Sarah and had dinner at the Outback and then saw the play Wicked.  We have wanted to see it for years now and had a lot of fun seeing it together. Learn all about it by clicking on the link above.  Sarah was our critic, having read the book. She enjoyed the show but was able to tell us how the book version was different.  Both girls love all the songs and sing along the soundtrack while driving their cars. I love the theatre and thought about my techie at University of Oklahoma, learning how to bring stories to live on stage! That's awesome.

We spent the night in Toledo and ended up visiting Sarah again today at her high school between practices.  It is so nice to see her in her element, knowing how much she loves her job and how much the school and students love her.

Jeff grilled some delicious burgers on the grill after some water exercise at the Club here at home.  I experimented with my KRAVE cereal and made cereal bars. Still going to add some chocolate on the top I think.

Mary has been reading up a storm. 2 books in two days! She needs to write a report for a class and has several to choose from, so she is reading all of them so she can decide which one to write about. I have been corresponding with fellow myeloma patients who have had a mystery rash as well.  I made a website for our Sunday School. I think it's pretty awesome! Click on the lind to check it out!
I have one more week with Mary before we move her back to Ann Arbor.  Hope it doesn't go too fast.

That's all for now.

Danish Festival 2013

It's been a fun Danish Festival Weekend! Nice weather, good music, parades, crafts and fellowship with friends.

Thursday: Opening of the Festival at the Flag Pole with the Danish Band Concert at the gazebo with an ice cream social.

Danish Festival Band 2013 : click to see a video of the band.

Friday:  Arts and Crafts show with Mary and my friend Deann, Fairy Tale Parade, and one of my favorite activities the Flat River Band Concert.  They are so good!

Saturday: The Grand Dansk Parade. We had friends here to enjoy the festivities. Again, nice weather and a fun parade. Had lunch at church and spent time at the craft show. By then we all needed a nap. Jeff and I attended the W Michigan Chorale concert and then picked up Mary and had Pizza Hut for dinner.

Earlier this week Jeff and I went to a movie screening for "The Ultimate Life". It was pretty good. It will be in the theatres on September 6th.  The theatre had plug ins for electric cars.  Never saw this before.

Mary is home for a few weeks before we move her back to Ann Arbor for her senior year at Michigan! Time has flown.  It is nice spending time with the kids when they are home.  Next week we are driving to Toledo to see "Wicked" with the girls.  I can't wait.  We've wanted to see that for a long time.

Matthew has moved in to his new apartment with 3 of his friends.  He is excited and we are so happy for him.  He gave us a tour via Skype this morning.  As expected his room is on very good order.   Now that he is living in a furnished apartment with a fridge, he doesn't have to eat PBJ every day.  She loves her job and the kids. She spent one day in the rain for 5 hours!

Sarah has had a few busy weeks.  Lots of testing for research projects, the professors and her own for her thesis. High school football practice has started so she is back caring for the student athletes of Summerfield High School.

Guess that about does it for this entry.  Have a good week!

New Car!

Sarah finally has her new vehicle and she loves it.  She said sometimes she can't believe it is hers.  We are glad to know she likes it and feel better that she is driving a safe SUV.    It should have plenty of room for all of her gear and equipment.

Matthew is doing fine in Oklahoma. Poor guy has moved 3 times this summer. First from his Walker dorm to Adams dorm, then from there to Cate Center, Hume House.  Next week, he and 3 buddies will be moving into an apartment, at the Campus Lodge, next weekend.  He is more than ready.

Mary will finish her summer session this week and will be home Thursday or Friday for a couple weeks.  I look forward to spending time with her.   Hope that her move out goes well with the landlord and her room mates. She has to take out an air conditioner too. Brandon made it safe and sound out to Los Angeles.  He sent me an awesome picture from his apartment. Sure looks beautiful.  Not sure when classes start, but I am sure he is ready to go.

Jeff and I have gotten into an empty nesters mode, and sharing the car is working out well for now.  Jeff served as Sir Wally during VBS this past week.  It was well attended and very well done!  The kids had a lot of fun.  I came for the closing 4 of the 5 days.  I am working on to do list everyday, adding things as needed and trying to keep up with most of the chores.

Until next time have a great day!

Back to Empty Nesting

A year ago, we started moving our kids to their new locations.  I was already singing the blues. Little did we know that just a few months later, blues of empty nesting ended and a fight with cancer ensued.   So, I feel like we are starting over as new empty nesters.

Sarah is back in Toledo and working with her student and collecting data for her thesis and covering pre-season sporting events. We are presently working with her to purchase a new vehicle. With her Kia nearing 200,000 miles and needing more cargo space, we located a Ford Escape with hopes to buy it. It is very nice and a good price for a vehicle much newer than her 2003 car.  I sure miss having her at home.

Mary has two weeks of her two classes during this summer session.  She also had to say goodbye to Brandon who left Monday morning for Los Angeles and UCLA.  I am sure it wasn't easy for either of them. At least there is cyberspace and smart phones that make it easy to stay in touch.  I look forward to having Mary home for a few weeks before fall classes.

Matthew is busy working his two jobs in Oklahoma.  I don't hear too much from him, as he is man of few words right now.  So it is normal, no news is good news.  But this mom misses him so much, that I need to at least text him during the week and skype or face time with him once in a while. Jeff and I have planned a trip to Norman in October for alumni weekend.  I am anxiously awaiting to see what plays may be onstage at OU that weekend. It would mean so much to see a show where Matthew is learning his profession.

I am trying to keep busy with piecing my life back together.  I kind of feel like I lost a year, since most of the last nine months has been focused on health.  I've started going to a water aerobics class and getting out and doing more things like, baseball games, lunch with friends, working on personal projects, chores and playing the piano.  Jeff is always busy. Church, Habitat for Humanity, helping the kids over the miles, and spending time with me!

It has been a good summer so far.

First Official Shift

Matthew's official first shift is tonight. He promised me a picture of him in his uniform and doesn't he look great?  We are so proud of him, making things happen in Oklahoma.  Two jobs and a successful freshman year of college so far away from home, not to mention doing this while his mom has cancer, having his bike stolen, spraining his ankle and  needing stitches after a mishap backstage.  He has had to deal with a car a/c that wouldn't blow cold air too!  Too hot in OK to be without air conditioning.

Sarah spent the first part of this week working for her advisor at the University of Toledo screening football players. She came home Thursday, in time for softball, and will be home with me until next Friday.  She sure has everything under control too, Grad School studies, writing her thesis, and her favorite working at Summerfield High School across the border in Michigan as their athletic trainer.  She has an excellent rapport with the school, coaches, students and their parents!

Mary is living in Ann Arbor, working at the Pizza House on weekends and taking two classes during the week. Boy she keeps busy!  She works a lot of hours on the Women's Glee Club as their new president. She and Brandon are coming home tomorrow for a Cory family picnic and then plans to spend Monday with us before heading back to UM for class and an exam on Tuesday!  Brandon leaves for UCLA before the end of the month.

I am not feeling well, got a c-diff infection.  The doctors want you to look forward after you're in remission, and I was doing pretty well.  Updated my resume, wrote some cover letters and even started filling out an application in case in need to transfer departments when I ready to return to work which is planned for September.  I'm driving, swimming and even exercised at our local gym. What's the saying 2 steps foward 3 steps back? Isn't that the truth.

Jeff maintains the stability of the household. Works many hours at church and keeps things going at home.  At least Sarah and I can handle the laundry, cooking and cleaning as a team.  Guess this fall will be my taste of empty nesting since last fall was filled with doctors, hospitals and nausea.

Have a good weekend.  I will be watching church online from home tomorrow. Thanks St Luke's Oviedo!

Good News!

Matthew had a job interview today at Regal Cinemas. It went well and got the job!  He starts his training tomorrow.  This is a good thing for him.  Making extra money will be a great help, especially since he had the AC fixed in the camry.  He sure is learning a lot of life lessons and coping quite well I would say.  Kudos Matthew!

Sarah is back in Toledo for most of the week.  Working with/for her advisor at the University's football program.  She will be home on Thursday and stay for another week. Pretty soon Jeff and I will be back to the two of us again.  We didn't get too much training for empty nesters last year, since life had a big change with my myeloma. This October instead of bone marrow biopsies and chemotherapy, Jeff and I have planned a trip to Oklahoma for OU Alumni weekend.  We have tickets to a Sooner Football game. I will be glad to see our Sooner, Matthew!  Wonder if we will be able to see a play too?

Haven't heard too much from Mary lately. I suppose things are going well as she keeps up with her classes.  Brandon got his room assignment at UCLA and will be heading west before the end of the month. Mary will be home for a short time on July 22.

I really liked how our family picture with the hats turned out great! It has been a year of hats for me.  Miss wearing them sometimes.  Check out the family photo albums for more proofs!

Well, that is all...have a great Tuesday!

Grace

Another Week

It was a week ago that Matthew was getting ready to fly back to Oklahoma.  He is doing fine and has an interview at Regal Cinemas on Monday!  He is excited about the possibility of working at the movie theater.  I sure hope that it works out for him, it would be so great for him to have more income!

Mary has started her summer classes and continues to work all her hours at the pizza house on the weekends. Brandon and Mary have been home a few times the past few weeks for various reasons. I don't care why, I am just glad to have them here whenever and how ever long I can have them! Make sense?

Sarah has been helping me here at home as planned and just found out from her advisor that she needs to be in Toledo next week for testing of the football players at University of Toledo.  That girl certainly does a lot of driving! It's been a blessing to have her at home with me otherwise I would be so lonely.  We do cooking, laundry, shopping and errands together and of course watch our favorite TV programs too!

Jeff is always busy with church, keeping up with all the work at home and on the lawn.  I am glad that we all make time to do things together! He needs as much fun time as we can give him! I have decided to return to my volunteer job as Sunday School Superintendent.  I am sad that our numbers are trending down.  Trying to brainstorm and find new ways to fire up the program and grow our Sunday School and in so doing our church family.  I must be careful not taking on too much too fast.  Bible Study needs to be a priority for me so I may just start with those two activities. I love music, but I don't know if I have the energy for leading two groups and I don't have the breath support to sing in the choir.

Guess that is all for now. We are enjoying a few days of mild weather before our heat wave arrives.  Sure glad Jeff got our AC's in last month. He sure is a great guy!  I am a lucky lady!

Back to Oklahoma

Matthew had to return to Oklahoma this morning.  We had such a wonderful time together. The party on Thursday was fun with good food and friends.  I even played some yard games.  Matthew was happy to have time with his buddy Mitch. Matthew burned all of his high school papers in the bonfire. If you are his friend on facebook, you can see pictures of 4 years of home work go up in flames!

Friday we were able to eat pizza at his favorite place, Mancino's.  Sarah took us to JCPenney's and Wal-Mart to find some clothes that fit Matthew.  After running 3 times a week all year, he needed a smaller size! We spent Friday evening at the ball park.  The Whitecaps won and we saw fireworks too! Sarah and Matthew lit up our driveway with special sparklers that Mary left for us.  She was at the Cory's for the evening on 4th of July. She also gave us a CD with slideshows and videos of the European Trip.  It was so well done with music and captions.
This morning we were up early and got Matthew to the airport to fly back to Oklahoma. He needs to be back to work at the scene shop @ OU on Monday.  Although I was sad to see him go, I didn't cry and am happy he likes his work. I am so proud of him and me too. It won't be long and he will move into an apartment with 3 of his buddies.   I know he looks forward to that day, especially since when Matt got back to his dorm room, he had a new room mate. Surprise!  Would have been nice if someone told him before he arrived.

That is all for now.

Happy Birthday America!

The whole family is together again. Jeff is mowing the lawn and Mary and Matt are at the store for a few last minute items.  Everyone is feeling well!   Going to have some fun, food and fellowship at a party as soon as we are all ready!  Hope you have a fantastic day!

GOD BLESS                AMERICA!

More Fun with the Wilhelms

Our time with Matthew has been so nice.  Even when we are just at home watching TV, eating together or just hanging out, it is wonderful to have him home.  Sarah is home now for the month of July with the exception of time back in Toledo for a meeting with the graduate school.

Here are some highlights of the past few days:
  • Went to a play "Into the Woods" at Greenville High School.  It was very good and quite long.
  • Of course everyone at church and Bible Hour were happy to see Matthew and surprised how tall he is now.  Almost taller than Jeff!
  • All five of us spent Sunday evening with our friends, the Clarks, celebrating our godson's birthday. We had so much  fun. Miss having them here in Greenville and at Mt. Calvary. There are lots of pictures in the family album.
  • Monday we went to the Michigan Whitecaps baseball game and had a fun time. Sarah and Matthew had friends with them at the game.   The weather was beautiful.  Not hot at all and had shady seats, which made me very happy.
  • Sarah and I have been cooking together.  We have made Lasagna Rolls,  Chicken Enchiladas, and tonight is chicken crescents.
  • Matthew finally went with our family friend Daryl and shot arrows with his bow.  He had a good time and said he did pretty well.
  • Sarah accompanied me on my first time driving in months. I had no crashes and returned home safe and sound.
We still have some fun ahead:
  • Mary will be with us for the 4th of July.  It will be so nice to have her home, no matter how short the visit might be.
  • We will be going to a 4th of July party at the Olivers in the afternoon.
Friday is Matthew's last day here.  Thinking about that makes me sad.  I hope that we can do something fun to last me until I see him again near the end of the year.

I guess that about does it.  Have a great Independence Day! Happy Birthday America!

Matthew is home!

It's been a fun week at 319 Cass.  Wednesday and Friday were Korean cooking days. My friend Deann came over and with Sarah's help,  made Bulgogi and put it to marinade for two days.  Then today we worked together Mary included to make Yaki Mondue. Tonight was dinner with both families and we have very little leftovers.  It was a lot of fun.

Yesterday was a very special day.  Matthew came home from Oklahoma for 10 days!  Had lunch at Red Lobster and then Jeff gave Matthew a lesson on how to change a flat tire after a piece of metal plunged into our tire.  Luckily the tire was repairable and things are back to normal.

Mary came home a few hours later and we spent quite a while deciding what to wear for our family picture.  Pictures went well and have been ordered.  Bought the CD too, so we can print or email pictures to as many friends and family we want.  Keep your eyes open in 2-3 weeks.   Dinner was at our favorite  late night place~Applebees for 50% off appetizers.  It was nice to have all 5 of us together again.  Baking is always something Mary loves to do when she comes home and made some delicious fudge brownies with dark chocolate chips! Yum.

Brandon came back to Greenville as well and spent time with  his dad.  When he picked Mary up to return to Ann Arbor, he showed me his diploma from U of M. Pretty nice! He heads to UCLA in a month, I think.

More fun times ahead!  I'll keep you posted.

It's summer!

It's summer! Luckily, the weather hasn't been too hot until recently.  Even without our air conditioners, it has been tolerable in the house.  It's the brick! Hope the AC will be in and working before it gets really hot and humid.

Two recent events this month for me was my 50th birthday and the Relay for Life fundraiser where I walked over a mile at GHS track.  I walked one lap with Sarah, the Survivor lap with Jeff and then three more laps after a very nice meal that was prepared for the survivors and families.  Just the week before, I turned 50!  I sure don't feel it, not even with all the treatments I have been through and side effects that came along with it.  My birthday was wonderful. Sarah surprised me and came home the night before and stayed for a few days.  Jeff took me to Outback for dinner. Mary arrived home after her European trip with Brandon, and Matthew called to wish his mama a happy day.  That is really all I needed.   But Jeff had a birthday party for me with some close friends and we enjoyed some delicious cake and snacks.   Did I mention that our house is filled with birthday balloons??  I love them! Thanks to everyone for your good wishes.

What's happened since I turned 50?  We went to Brandon's graduation party and had a wonderful afternoon and evening.  My appetite was back, so I was able to enjoy the most delicious burgers, hot dog and potato salad.  We also enjoyed a ride on the lake. Whenever we get together with the Cory's we have a lot fun and laughs. Thanks for a great evening friends!  Mary made the cake and as  usual she did a great job with decoration. The cake was delicious too.

Sarah is home for about 6 weeks to help me with the housework and drive me places, since I am still banned from driving by my transplant doctor. It has been so nice having her home and having someone to talk to, watch TV with and cook with.  We are going to work on new recipes. She has made some trips back to Toledo to cover her high school baseball district and regional games and this weekend is the all star football game.  She was also able to attend some graduation open houses for some of the athletes.

Now for more exciting news!  Matthew is coming home next week.  I am so so so happy, especially since I wasn't able to go to Oklahoma in May.  He is going to get lots of hugs while he is home for over a week!  Did I mention I was happy?  Mary is going to come home for an overnight so we can have a family picture taken. Hope they turn out nice. Then she goes back to Ann Arbor to continue working and taking two summer classes at the U of M.

So, it has been a great  June 2013.....
